He has nothing to gain from this. Nothing. And the new singer can actually hold his own and is a selfless guy who would rather Perry come back. He's that big of a Journey fan.
Steve is what? 60? Our heroes, especially frontmen and drummers, cannot do this much more. Queen, for instance, is going to a a replacement drummer for every single show this summer. Roger is done.

John Fogerty's even worse. He refused to perform with CCR when they were inducted into the HOF.

Yeah, I think Steve is a perfectionist and just didn't want to not sound perfect, so he chose to let their guy do his thing.
