Why is there such a large variation in vinyl prices?

It depends on what type of pressing it is, the condition of the vinyl, rarity, etc.

Original pressing vs. a remaster/reissue possibly if it's an older album.

What captain said. You are likely looking at a more rare pressing for the $100 one. Rare vinyl pressings can be worth several hundred dollars.

All records/CDs have a serial number. Here is a good site to look up records and compare prices for different editions.
