So do y'all just listen to them while studying or do you actually ever rock out to them? I ask because Explosions in the Sky came through Houston recently. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go, but it made me interested in their live shows...

They freakin bring it. This is them at Bonnaroo: LINK Like most of their songs, it takes a while to build up, but they go ape and the crowd gets really into it. Even at a festival, which I think is crazy. I feel like bands like Explosions in the Sky would really only fare well in small venues.

Use of rock instruments (i.e. drums and guitars) to create layered music and textures in combination with the use of other electronic equipment such as pedals. Typically, there are no vocals. In the case of Sigur Ros, the vocalist largely uses his voice as an instrument rather than as a means of speaking. In fact, in one of their albums, he flat just made up Icelandic gibberish that worked with the soundscapes.

Some of them actually bring it pretty hard. Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, etc. all have a pretty heavy bent on occasion.

ETA: So... really, I have no idea what "post-rock" means. It's just the name of the genre.
