Can you guys give me some tips? I’ll be mostly playing blues based stuff. Should I set aside a guitar as a strictly slide guitar? What are your favorite tunings? Open E, G, or standard? This is an itch I’ve been wanting to scratch for a while, so I’m gonna give it a go.

I first learned in Open D then went G. There are great tutorials on YouTube that will tech kicks and random resources but the key for me was just relearning the fretboard. Once you get that down everything gets much easier. Not much different than learning soloing in standard tuning.

I've been trying to master slide for years. Some people have it, and some people don't. I'm one of the "don'ts". Still though, I've learned enough, that I can get by in a pinch.
I suggest that you set aside a guitar for it, whatever one is your worst player, as long as the intonation is good, it will be fine. You need a slightly higher action really. You can do this a few different ways, but my suggestion is to buy the nut adapter, it goes over your nut on your guitar and is already slotted for your strings. You don't even need to remove the strings, just loosen them, slide the adapter in and retune.
As far as tuning goes, the possibilities are endless, and I would pick the one that suits my voice the best. Listen to a lot of different players, and find out what type of slide they use, pick the one with the sound that you like best. You don't have to buy what they have at the guitar shop either, they have a lot of stuff at home depot(or anywhere) that you can use too. Keep your slide moving, but don't think you have to be real fancy. A little bit goes a long way.

I like to use an Open C tuning, it suits my voice and there are no sharps or flats in the scale, it's a really easy tuning to learn. For the most part, all open major tunings work the same way, with the big difference being if The root note is on the top string. I prefer tunings where it isn't.

Also, when you decide what tuning you want to use, learn it pretty well without the slide first, be able to pick in that tuning pretty well.

Be patient. Gregg Allan told Lee Roy Parnell that the whole band used to tell Duane to put the slide down when he was learning. I’m no expert but one day out of nowhere it will feel natural
