Both albums tell stories and share a few similar themes (isolation and madness). Obviously, there is a lot more material on The Wall, particularly considering the film content, the stage shows. Whereas, we're more or less frozen in time with DSOTM, The Wall - in many ways - continued to grow and evolve in the years since. The last "real" Pink Floyd album, along with the last real collaboration (Comfortably Numb) between Gilmour and Waters - the team that made this band special in the 1970s has a lot going for it.

On the other hand, DSOTM is a great album to put on and just listen to straight through. I do it all the time - at least once per month. It is the prime example of a rock album that creates its own living, breathing atmosphere that you can either actively listen to, or have in the background (Animals, and to a lesser degree, Wish You Were Here, my actual favorite Floyd album, are similar to DSOTM in this respect, but are not quite as organic from beginning to end.)

There is a lot more energy in The Wall - I agree with you on that point, but it also takes more energy and effort to get through all the material, as well, whether the album or film version - you're talking about 80 to 90 minutes.

You can get through DSOTM in about half that time.

For me it goes : Animals>DSotM>Meddle>Wish You Were Here>Atom Heart Mother>The Wall

Yes. I completely agree with this list. And then after The Wall I would rate Piper, A Saucerful of Secrets, and Obscured By Clouds. It gets a bit muddy for me after this.
