I liked the Kinks a lot, but they were the victims of some God awful production by Shel Talmy. Those early recordings sound like they were recorded in a bomb shelter.

That's almost the point. The low-fi suited their early power chorders.

But when Ray began expanding his songwriting, Talmy was out of his element. He & Ray were clearly at odds by the time of Something Else. "Afternoon Tea" may be the worst mixed track of the Kinks' kareer.

’All Music’s Stephen Thomas Erlewine has declared “Sweet Lady Genevieve” to be the “real candidate for Davies’ forgotten masterpiece”. ’

Great meme. I sent it to a music living friend of mine battling cancer. He responded, "Haha, so true"

Rosy, won’t you please come home?

To put The Kinks in modern terms, they’re Spoon….so many incredible hooks, just a knack for possessing a pop sensibility without surrendering to the whims of the pop music of the day.

The Kinks are FAR better than Spoon, just saying Spoon is the closest act to The Kinks in the last 20-30 years.
