Unpolished early version w/o backing vocals

This version stresses the music hall piano of the Nicky Hopkins outro, emphasizing the song's bittersweet quality, somehow being bouncy & wistful at the same time

A cover of Lobdell LA's Slim Harpo

I'm not ashamed to admit it: I like the dance number.

The cymbal Mick Avory threw at Dave Davies (during a concert), knocking him bloody & unconscious on stage.

Maybe so, but their later output, like the mid/late 70s and 80s stuff is really fricking awful.

Never knew this existed:

quote:

The rare Australian single version of the 1969 Arthur track Australia. The lengthy noodling at the end of the song was removed and replaced with a repeat of the "We'll surf like they do in the USA" verse. This resulted in probably the most unsubtle edit in the history of pop music (at around 2.08).
I don't understand why they did this terrible edit. They could have simply faded out on the album track before the unnecessary jam begins (around 2:50).

Opportunities are available in all walks of life in Australia
So if you're young and if you're healthy
Why not get a boat and come to Australia

Australia, the chance of a lifetime
Australia, you get what you work for
Nobody has to be any better than what they want to be
Australia, no class distinction
Australia, no drug addiction
Nobody's got a chip on their shoulder

We'll surf like they do in the U.S.A.
We'll fly down to Sydney for our holiday
On sunny Christmas Day
Australia, Australia...

I absolutely love the kinks and argue constantly they may be the best of the British Invasion. Comparing the early singles of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Who, etc., All Day and You Really Got Me kill the others early singles. Not to mention the not popular I Need You, Sitting On My Sofa, Everybody’s Gonna Be Happy.

Rather mundane cover for one of their greatest singles

Whoa... Talk about a rarity: audio from a Dec. 1965 "Ready Steady Go" episode, w/the Kinks performing the Christmas novelty "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth".

Some nice garagey guitar from Dave

I don't really know their post-'71 stuff very deeply.
