The doors, the stooges, velvet underground, skynyrd..and important solo artists like Janis Joplin, hendrix and Dylan etc.

You have a link saying this is the specific reason? Or they chose a name that sounded English, and realized later where that would place them?

I've always wondered if there were any '60s bands who deliberately chose names like The Bears, The Beale Streeters, etc b/c that would place them between Beatles and Beach Boys.
