Little-known Bob Dylan at a rehearsal for the Ed Sullivan Show in 1963.
He was scheduled to perform on the May 12 edition of the program when CBS lawyers ruled he could not perform the song "Talkin' John Birch Society Blues".
Although Sullivan himself publicly disagreed w/the decision. CBS legal would not back down. Rather than be censored, Dylan cancelled the appearance. He never did appear on The Ed Sullivan Show.

John Lennon interview in KRLA Beat, April 14 1965

John Lennon and Paul McCartney appeared on The Tonight Show on 14 May 1968.
They were in New York City in order to promote the recently formed Apple Corp., and had been invited to appear on the program. No one informed them that host Johnny Carson was on vacation. They initially decided to cancel, but then agreed to go on, with Joe Garagiola as guest host, accompanied by legendary Broadway actress Tallulah Bankhead (who appeared to be drunk).
Lennon began the segment, “Well how are you, Johnny?“ before the two fielded questions from Garagiola and Bankhead.
No videotape of the segment is known to exist, only audio recorded off the TV. At one point John introduces a station break by saying, "And now a word from our local stallions"

Video exists. Not good audio or video, but it's out there to view.
This is also the interview when Lennon famously said about forming Apple: "We want to make a sort of an umbrella so people who want to make films about... grass... don't have to go on their knees in an office, you know, begging for a break. We'll try and do it like that. That's the idea. I mean, we'll find out what happens, but that's what we're trying to do."

shot through a keyhole by a retarded schizophrenic on an acid trip.
This was "synched" to the extant audio. But it's not really watchable, even by my very lenient standards.
