Currently, the female band Haim is making some awesome pop-rock tunes. I've been digging them lately.

A lot of what Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles did was "pop" and much of it was great. The Eagles get a soulless rep because their persona reflected the cold, calculating personality of the co-captains, Henley and Frey. The best Eagles song was a rock song, Hotel California, but a lot of their stuff was country-tinged pop - Take it Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling, Tequila Sunrise, Desperado, I Can't Tell You Why, etc.
As far as Fleetwood Mac - Rumours is an album that epitomizes what you're talking about - great pop music. Listenable even after hearing it dozens of times.
