Found a stash of old 8 tracks.

So for kicks I drug out an old record and 8track player from a relative’s garage.

So when I put on an 8track, it won’t play. If I pull back on the 8 track a little and hold on to it, it plays fine. Let go and it stops. Any ideas?

Then I put on a record, and everything is fine, but no sound in the left speaker. Both speakers work fine when I get the 8track to play, but not the record.

Any old timers know what’s going on other than that it’s just broke?

If you had some old match books or popsicle sticks you could use those as shims to hold the 8 Track in place.

I figured the solution would be similar to fixing an old NES.

The spongy pads on the 8-tracks have dried out and lost their elasticity. They need to be replaced. Good luck with that.
