Thoughts? Personally, I love it.
Deadlines (Hostile) is unbelievable. Hymn, Martin, Life Worth Missing, and There Must Be More Than Blood are also very good. Will Toledo continues his run of good albums.

Too early to tell for me. I’ve only listened once and it was a distracted listen while working.
I will say that the reactions I’ve seen to it on the internet have me fairly nervous, but I’m glad to see your reaction to it. The first two singles sounded pretty good to me. Then, Hollywood was an aggressively bad single, almost like it was purposefully being bad. Reminded me of Pistol by Modest Mouse.

Good God Hollywood is so bad. It is like the idiot cousin of every other song on the album. Me and my friends really like the album, but a lot of CSH's following really like their lo fi roots, which they won't really find on this album. Understandably, the reception has been mixed, like you said.

Listened to it once this afternoon. It's a little different. Sounded like they're incorporating some electronic elements...some drum machine sequencing, touch of synths., etc. I like to see some evolution between albums but not sure how this one will hold up to the others.

Kinda what I like about them.

Very Divine Fits with a lot of the addition of synths and such. I'm loving it. There Must Be More Than Blood is such a groove. It could be Killer Whales if it just had a bit more oomph at the end. Still probably my favorite on the album.

I’m really liking it. Deadlines is a great track. I think the synths a la LCD Soundsystem is more my style...need to give Teens of Denial and Twin Fantasy another listen bc I don’t remember caring for those and that’s what got CSH acclaim

Finally listed to the album again but on proper speakers. Can't Cool Me Down really resonates with me and is my favorite on the album. But I'm having a tougher time with the rest of it.
I really like this band. And I really like synth-driven rock. But I'm not sure I like this band doing that (I think I said the same thing about Sturgill Simpson). Many times this kind of synth and raw rock combo works. Sometimes it's like oil and water though. I understand why many bands are moving in this direction...synths are fascinating, sound really cool and are very fun to play. But they aren't for every band.
I'm sure I'll give the album more go's though and maybe it will grow on me.

I like the first half of the album a lot with the exception of Hollywood.

After spending some time with the album this week, I’m definitely enjoying it. It’s not Teens of Denial, but it’s not near as bad as some of the online reaction (not here) indicated.
Hollywood is still cringeworthy though.
