Having grown up during this time I remember how exciting it was to hear all this new music from so many rock bands coming out of England. The British Band's music sounded like Americans singing but when the Band members were interviewed they had such strong British accents. The 1960's were an incredible time to experience music indeed! All these great groups and so many new hits week to week. The Radio, American Bandstand and the Ed Sullivan Show were about the only place to hear the music or see the bands play until the 45's showed up at the record store.

It was the summer of 1972 and the Rolling Stones were on their American concert tour for their acclaimed "Exile on Main Street" album. But when they were not onstage and rocking out with their fans, they were hard at work remixing tracks at the Sunset Sound studio in Hollywood.

Now the estate of Marshall is releasing some of the never-before-seen photos of the band in a new book "The Rolling Stones 1972" (Chronicle Books), out on August 15. Some of these frames are being displayed exclusively on the CNN Photos blog. The release couldn't have had better timing as the Rolling Stones recently announced plans to mark their 50th anniversary this year.
