I used to listen and enjoy LP...when I was 15. I at least have the excuse now to say that I didn't know any better and was a sucker for the cliche lyrics. Then I grew up and I needed music that's more fulfilling. Nothing to do with social pressure. How can you honestly listen to their stuff today and think "THIS IS SOOOO BADASS!"?
And yes, there may be some bands that people feel social pressure to hate. LP and Nickelback aren't among them. They really do just suck.

I can honestly say I never liked LP at all. Never. I had already enjoyed RATM and 311 and if you were gonna top that, you'd best be GOOD. I actually thought LP sounded like nails on a chalkboard when their first hit "Crawling" came out. I thought it was very, very lame. That's just me. I am sure I have liked many bands that I cannot stand anymore and Godsmack truly comes to mind.
