How tough is it for an artist to play a venue like JF

or one of the other big outdoor events? Your crowd may or may not be big fans. They wander by, watch for a while and wander off somewhere else. The audience feedback goes up into the atmosphere instead of back toward you like at an indoor event. Probably a lot of other factors as well.

I know that Ray Fransen's Drum Center in Kenner hooks up the drummer with whatever set he wants to play on. And then after the event, the once played drumset is sold as "used".

Depends on the venue. JF doesn't get you a dedicated audience. The music festivalsin general are an opportunity to earn some new fans.

I think the fact they are at Jazz Fest has them pretty stoked. I don't think it would be hard at all.
They do have air conditioning on the stage. I think I read that for Tom Petty's set was 60 degrees on stage.
