Hey guitar players, re: pedalboards

Over the years I've used everything from digital effects processors like the Digitech RP1 and Line 6 POD, but around 2001 I stopped using the all inclusive effects processors and started customizing my own pedalboards with stompboxes and the like.
For securing pedals on my custom boards I've mainly used the industrial velcro. However I'm often left with sticky residue if I remove the velcro down the road. Plus if I'm doing an acoustic show and just want to bring along one or two pedals, having velcro on the bottom causes the pedal to slide on hard floors.
A quick Google search reveals several discussion threads on this topic and people with similar issues. Some people suggested either 1) drilling straight thru the bottom of the board into the screw holes on the pedal bases, 2) attaching broken figure 8 bike chain links to screw down, 3) using zip ties thru holes in the board, or of course 4) velcro.
The 1st two suggestions just seem like a pain in the arse if you're someone who moves/adds/swaps pedals around with any regularity. The zip tie thing looks like shite to me (saw a few pic examples). And velcro is what I've been using for years. I see that there's a company out there making customizable brackets to mount to your pedalboard, but that really falls into the "too much of a pain in the arse when making changes" category.
Just curious as to what players here do for their setup.

I use zip ties. and I use to use velcro.
I have a holey board. check those out. they look weird, but built very well.

Thanks for the suggestion. The zip ties actually don't look bad in that set up. Not sure how I would make the zip ties work with volume/wah pedals tho...
