I’ve read a few recent articles that Apple will be introducing this to their platform and some services already have it. Can you really tell a difference and what is it comparable to? I’ve always heard vinyl is the best?

You'll get a variety of opinions on HD streaming. A lot depends on your digital system. Comparisons are always hard because you are hardly ever sure you are listening to the same actual mix. The biggest draw for digital music is ease of access & availability.
I've recently gone through trails of Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon HD and Spotify. The first three have CD and above stream quality. I thought Tidal and Qobuz had the best sound of the streaming services. Spotify had the best selection, for my music tastes. Compared to CD's, either played from a good player or streamed FLAC's from a SSD, picking which sounded better was harder. Probably depends more on the quality of the disk used or quality of the digital transform. Regardless the differences were never huge on my system or to my ears (that's always a variable too!).
The debate between vinyl and digital sound and which is better, is a whole other discussion.
