Found a nice new trick for conditioning the fingertips on your fretting hand:

been playing a lot the last 3 days, to the point that I had wore slots into my pads. It wasn't just hurting, it was hanging my fingers on changes and bends and stuff.
I was looking for something to put on them to soften them up, and found some Neosporin salve in the medicine cabinet.
I put a little dab on each finger tip, and let it start melting, then I started rubbing the tips of my fingers over and over with my thumb. It softened up the pads and smoothed them back out, and even the burn went away, I was able to go right back to playing, after washing the greasy crap off.
Really been spending a lot of time working on open tunings, and focusing on my right hand patterns, trying to be a bit less sloppy, and also working on my slide technique. It's paying dividends.
