But well intentioned, I'm sure.

There was a myth that lasted 20 years or so that the key to Peter Green's guitar sound was him having his Les Paul's neck pickup rotated 180 degrees to achieve a "out of phase" sound. When Green emerged form his long battle with mental illness he did a interview where he was asked about the pickup. He said he had removed the pickup for some reason, and after he reinstalled it and restrung the guitar he realized the pickup was upside down, He said it sounded the same, and it was too much trouble to take it apart and rotate it back to the normal configuration.
