Top ten:
1. Modest Mouse- The Moon and Antartica
2. The National- Boxer
3. Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
4. Sunset Rubdown- Dragonslayer
5. Panda Bear- Person Pitch
6. The Knife- Silent Shout
7. Animal Collective- Strawberry Jam
8. Wolf Parade- Apologies to the Queen Mary
9. The Dismemberment Plan- Change
10. Titus Andronicus- The Monitor
biggest cuts: Madvillain, Broken Social Scene, The Hold Steady, and The New Pornographers
for all the talk i see about modern music being bad, i'd take that top ten against most decades. anyone else have some favorites, i am looking for some new albums to download.

The Thrills were pretty good. I wouldn't say I loved it, but definitely a solid listen.

Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
White Stripes - Icky Thump
A couple of honorable mentions since 2000.

I always go back and forth on whether I prefer Chutes Too Narrow or Oh, Inverted World. CtN is probably better top to bottom, but damn Oh, Inverted World has New Slang.

John Mayer-Continuum
Damien Rice O
The Killers - Hot Fuss
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
Ray Lamontagne - Trouble
Amos Lee - Self Titled
Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
Circa Survive - On Letting Go (Not listened to near as much anymore, but the musicianship and production is top notch)

No doubt on New Slang as that's one of my current top 10 songs I'd say. Though Young Pilgrims is right there with it.
Also, MM's Good News For People Who Like Bad News and White Stripes Elephant (if for no other reason than Ball and Biscuit)are worth mentioning.

Love Good News, but it isn't quite The Moon and Antarctica to me.

Both are great, was a tough choice for me. I've had really good times to a few songs from Good News though, maybe that is why.

My question, as always, is what the hell is wrong with Wincing the Night Away? I've played the other two aforementioned albums to death, but Wincing is my favorite of theirs.

I like Wincing alot. I probably rather the other two by a little bit, but I have no qualms about someone preferring Wincing the Night Away. Australia, Phantom Limb, Turn on Me, etc. all good stuff.
Their new album is pretty good as well. simple song is especially very good.

I don't care for Mercer's vocals on the first album, though I probably enjoy about half the songs on any given playthrough. I think he's become a little more conservative in presenting his singing quirks over the years, much like Win Butler. Both of them went from, "This is how I sound, so deal with it" to figuring out how to get the most out of their unique styles.
Chutes Too Narrow... To me, it's all "Kissing the Lipless" and "Saint Simon", and I could never bring myself to really appreciate the rest of the album as anything other than background music.

hmm interesting. i am pretty sure you have a more musically trained ear than me because none of that really ever registered with me (plus in the past i have heard you talk about some technical stuff that went way over my head).
