How did that album compare to the next few? No idea, i was 9 in 1997.

It was less pop than Enema of the State, less Punk than their first album. It's an almost perfect bridge between the two.

The single, "Dammit" reached #11 on the billboard charts. The album, Dude Ranch, went gold, peaking at #67 on the billboard top albums.

David Eric Grohl is the better of the two.

Time has a way of distorting things.

80's rock really falls into about 3 main categories:
Hair metal: Motley Krewe, Def Leppard, Twisted Sister
Punk rock: Black Flag, The Ramones
Power metal: Iron Maiden, Rush, Metallica

I could never consider Def Leppard "hair metal" because during their early years they just looked like poor kids from a working district in England......no glitz or glam. Even when Photograph was in heavy rotation on MTV, they still weren't part of the leather and makeup crowd that so many of the hair bands rocked. Rick Allen wore a pair of union jack shorts and tennis shoes for the entire Pyromania tour.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Old enough to have watched Nirvana's performance on MTV Unplugged live.

OK. My question wasn´t a slight by any means, just wanted to know.

Cobain was much more talented, and Grohl´s a ´new age´ cool guy (Adam Sandler) type dude. He was there, but wasn´t there (if you get my drift).

He´s coattailed, but was cool with others, when Nirvana were huge, for sure.

He looks to be a great guy, but he´s no Cobain.

Early Def Leppard through Pyromania was hardcore classic rock, not hair metail which I despised. There is a whole genre missing from that post. Van Halen, AC/DC, Def Leppard at least until the mid Eighties were hard core classic rock and roll. In the mid Eighties, synthesizers destroyed truly great rock and roll. GNR in the late Eighties and the grunge scene until the mid to late Nineties brought back good old rock and roll. I hate metal with a passion. Cheesy and shallow as shite.

Remember when rock songs had guitar rides in them?

WTF does that even mean? Is it a reference to shitty hair metal?
