check out this website about different generes of electronic music.

while its a little old, this is the best website I have seen to explain the differences. It has great samples with each genre, and they get to the point. Each genre has the history behind it.
This video was taken from a bassnectar interview.
He explains a few generes, leading up to Dub step.

this is a good one from just blaze about hip hop, and how it could be considered edm, and stop boxing everything into generes LINK
