He really is incredible. Sounds like he dropped in from the 1920-30's but is uniquely fresh. You can hear the New Orleans jazz, blues and ragtime influences all over the place with a Jimmie Rodgers / Leon Redbone vocal delivery, yet he's copying no one.
If you want to listen to something different do yourself a favor and drop this on your ears...
Album: "Something's In The Water"

He plays with some local New Orleans guys at times such as members of The Deslondes

I've seen him live 3 times and always a good show. Although the last time I saw him, about 2 years ago, a lot of original band members were gone and he seemed to be going in a different musical direction that wasn't as good.

I hate to hear that. He had an unrivaled command of the early stuff. Loved his South City Three stuff. He is a St.Louis boy I think which is the reason for the band name I think. Played some shows with him in Oxford when he was hanging around here. We had a pool party at my house and he was there. Dressed down to his skivvies to swim and even those were authentic. Looked like something your grandad would wear. Glad to have known him.

Check out Chris Shifletts (Foo Fighters guitarist) podcast "Walking the Floor". He's interviewed Pokey a few times and the guy seems true to his craft.
