Back in the 70s you could walk around the fricking mall or something and hear great jams out of the house speakers
The radio was dominated by pop music such as disco etc

I tuned in to this expecting to hear a song by them I had yet to hear. Damn

I´d call it angst.

You really thought they weren't going to play their single?
They'll play another song

if yours is only top-40
quote:Wouldn't that be an exception to eras gone by? Why shouldn't the 90's be defined by grunge, or the 80s by synthesizers, or the 70s by harmony and disco, or the 60s by hippies, or the 50s by bebop, or the 40s by folk, or the 30s by swing? Those generations weren't defined by their underground sounds.
i don't define a generation by billboard charts

Really? The 50'e for me is defined by rock and roll such as chuck berry, Elvis, buddy holly etc

Welp, they just killed that

Chick can sing.

Well then you don't know anything about the Alabama shakes.
They aren't some angsty band.
They are a soul rock band from Athens, AL

Wow. Thank you.
Brittany´s anguished. Leave it at that.
Now, if you equate that with soul, then tell me why Sam Cooke was one of greatest soul artists of all times. He may not have been happy IRL, but he certainly didn´t transmit pain or anguish.

Did Elvis make the top 40?
Anyway... let's hope the Shakes rock their closing act. Their first one was worth sticking around to find out.

So Marvin Gaye was angsty?

I asked you to tell me why Sam Cooke was great. I didn´t ask you to respond with a question.

Pretty different from the Alabama shakes. Shakes are heavily BLUES influenced.
