I would think most families would eat when the Patriarch of the family wants to eat. I know when I was growing up our dinner time revolved around my father's work schedule. Somedays dinner would be at 4 other days it would be at 7.

Another thing that only happens on TV. Why do fat fricks like Kevin James and Jim Belushi get smoking hot babes cast as there wife, it's just not realistic.

We never ate dinner before 9:30 growing up. Still don't.

If I haven't ate dinner by 7:00 I'm not going to eat. Eating that late can be bad for digestion and also packs on the pounds.

Upper-class people stay up later, ergo they eat later.
In an episode of All In The Family, Archie arrives home to learn supper isn't ready and he's furious: "I get home from work at 6:00 and that's when I want supper on the table -- 6:00! You think I'm one of these rich Park Avenue swells who eats a fashionable late dinner at 6:15, 6:20?"

Going out to dinner and eating dinner at home are two totally different things. Dinner out is usually later than dinner at home.
