Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, and Adam Sandler easily
Easily may be a stretch. But I think it’s arguably those three if you break it down like this:
For pure stardom it has to be Murphy I think. I’m not sure anybody at their peak was as huge of a star as Eddie Murphy was. Not Chevy. Not Murray. Sandler. Ferrell. Dreyfuss. Etc.
In terms of biggest earners, I think Meyers has a case. He was the centerpiece and driving force of one really successful franchise (Wayne’s World, $255 million BO), one huge one (Austin Powers, $676 million BO), and one mega gigantic one (Shrek, $2.99 billion and counting…Shrek 5 is out next year). Not to mention other movies he’s either starred in or been in.
And for longevity I think Sandler gets the nod. He’s consistently made movies for three decades now (unlike others who were big at one point but then lulled pretty significantly at times). His movies are either good-to-great or pretty bad, but almost always universally popular (big box office numbers, views/streams, etc.). Not to mention that even some of his worst movies still made bank (Jack and Jill is a good example; that movie is pretty hated by pretty much everyone but still make $150 million at the box office).
