And here we go:

1. Sonic the Hedgehog (Paramount) $57 million
2. Birds of Prey (Warner Bros.) $17.1 million
3. Fantasy Island (Sony) $12.4 million
4. The Photograph (Universal) $12.2 million
5. Bad Boys for Life (Sony) $11.3 million
6. 1917 (Universal) $8 million
7. Jumanji: The Next Level (Sony) $5.7 million
8. Parasite (Neon) $5.5 million
9. Dolittle (Universal) $5 million
10. Downhill (Fox Searchlight) $4.6 million

- Sonic the Hedgehog sets the domestic opening record for movies based on a video game
- The terrible box office bow for Downhill might signal the end for Will Ferrell's career
- Parasite enters the Top 10 with the fabled "Best Picture Bump"
- The Rise of Skywalker has at last left the Top 10

A low budget, Sundance premiering remake of a Danish dark comedy that opened in 2,000 theaters. It's a disappointing opening for sure, but this probably had a $10-11 upper limit opening. It was never going to be a massive hit. Career generalizing statements about its stars feels reckless.

I never once saw an ad for Downhill. It’s not playing at the theater I usually go to. I have no idea what it’s about or that Will Farrel was in it. That’s a failure of marketing.
