I can't attribute an opinion to a whole company but RJ and Kennedy obviously do not have any love for the original character or life lessons he learned in the first trilogy.

I just don't get it. Never will.

Do you know how huge Luke could have been with fans in the movie if given a decent story line?

Avenges Han's murder?

Is coerced back to lead the rebellion?

There's no point in revisiting Star Wars if you are going to turn it's pathology on its head.

Make Rey basically Wonder Woman? I guess Luke had crappy midi-chlorians because he had to EARN his stripes.

It is truly bizarre not to take advantage of what are obvious great moments for a major character to show important human emotions like grief or rage when dealing with the loss of his best friend. These are moments an audience deserves when it comes to major characters you are killing like Han and Luke.

I think 50% of why Rogue One was as well received as it was (in spite of fairly undeveloped central characters) was people getting to see Vader go badass on a whole crew of resistance.

It seems unspeakably obvious that giving Luke a TLJ moment like that (against Snope preferably to build the power and menace of Snope and set up Rey to defeat Snope in the last film) would have gone a really long way to making the fans of the OT happier with how his character was treated, while still placing the importance of the new characters on a higher rung.
