I watched that Bryan Cranston as Lyndon B Johnson movie not too long ago and didn’t care for it.

Randomly came across this HBO movie from 2002 covering LBJs path to entering Vietnam and man it was incredible!

The guy setting himself on fire, Baldwin as McNamara, the base visit with the poor guy getting pinned on by the President and more were amazing things.

Anyone else seen it? Highly recommend if you have HBO Max and love Vietnam war era movies.

To be fair, LBJ didn't start the path. JFK did. But LBJ "got his war" when he helped kill JFK. He's the one most responsible for the escalation of the conflict.

LBJ is by no short order, the worst president of the the last 60 years.

Some will say otherwise, particularly from 2008-2016, but that admin didn't get the abundance of legislation passed that LBJ did.

LBJ created the modern welfare state and destroyed the fabric of the country with by uncapping mmigration. Add that to Vietnam, the rise of neo-Marxism and the seeds it laid, and the expansion of the deep state/secret society/swamp/military industrial complex, and you've got the most negatively impactful president since FDR.

I'm sure the show doesn't address all that, but it should. The only great thing he did, which was the space race, was just a continuation of JFK's vision and he mainly did it to get Texas the NASA headquarters.

An interesting film for sure but also a figure responsible for tens of thousands of needless American deaths whitewashing his own legacy.

JFK's whole "best and brightest" narrative falls apart with minor scrutiny. Those guys were in way over their head and most did a terrible job.
