The way I look at it, vampire stories have always been sexual and trended toward erotica, even in the old Victorian tales. The vampire (typically male) would come into the room of the woman late at night, and the bite location on the neck is in an area that is typically considered a very erotic place for kissing - as most women can get very turned on by being kissed there.

With that in mind, Twilight, from my POV (admittedly without seeing or reading any of them) is erotica aimed at the high school/college aged female. What tends to bother me is the number of adult (late 20s and up) females who not only enjoy but seem to lust after these characters which are what, 16 or 17 years old. One friend of mine had a shirt made just for going to the see the movie on Friday that read "Edward can bite my pillows and bruise my body anytime."

Everyone seems to be fine with that, but what if guys were wearing shirts to the Hannah Montana movie or High School Musical movies that implied they wanted to frick Miley's character or the lead chick in HSM?

Teenage girls makeup the fastest growing movie audience.

Throw in the fact that they will be going with groups of friends and/or dates, and you have what makes perfect financial sense to film this series.
