I love these posts. Very clearly I'm going to actually go do this. Very obviously it was United 93 that made me decide to hunt al Qaeda. You know, not the actual events of 9/11, but the movie about 9/11.

Y'all are fricking tools. "No you don't." "Don't let the door hit you." Well no shite I don't want to go to Afghanistan. No shite I don't want to shite in a hole in the ground for months waiting for an order to attack an encampment. Jesus Christ, it was the immediate reaction to a movie that touched a core emotional response in me.

Did you not feel the same when you watched it? Have you even seen it or did you just feel the urge to post douchebag comments after my OP because you thought it would look cool to the other posters?

This is why Jesus taught to forgive and turn the other cheek.

This normally happens on the OT but not usually here as much.

Don't watch any of the 9/11 conspiracy theory documentaries because your image/views of United 93 will be shattered. Not being a douche but how does the black box ensure accuracy of what happened in the cabin of the plane?

Yeah I think that's right. But most al Qaeda training camps and strongholds are or at least were in Afghanistan. May be more in Pakistan and Yemen now.

15 of the 19 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. Muhammed Atta - lead hijacker on Flight 11 - was from Egypt; Ziad Jarrah - lead hijacker on Flight 93 - was from Lebanon; Marwan al-Shehhi - lead hijacker on Flight 175 - was from the United Arab Emirates; and Fayez Banihammad - muscle hijacker on Flight 175 - was from the Unite Arab Emirates.

Well...it lets us know that the passengers did attempt to take control of the plane and it lets us know that the hijackers intended to put the plane into the ground should the passengers gain entry into the cabin.

Here are my thoughts on this movie I posted in another thread

quote:

I try to hold back my praise for United 93 as much as I can because of the events it deals with. Those events in themselves will draw an emotional response from me as is, so the movie, while well made, has a "shortcut" to getting that accomplished. It has some very powerful scenes but I can't tell how much of that is to the credit of the production of the movie or just the mere relationship it has with some very real events in all of our lives. When asked about this movie, my standard answer is to say "it's a well made film" and leave it at that.

I remember those comments and my response is that you can say the same thing about any well-made film based on an emotionally true story.

Would Schindler's List have been as powerful if the Holocaust had never happened?

No but I didnt live through the holocaust so it's different. Also, the "play by play" of what happened on that plane is still a bit of a mystery.

And it will always be a mystery though I believe we have about as accurate a portrayal of the events on that flight as we can get when it comes to this film. There will always be lingering questions but the question that I find myself asking the most is this:

Why did the hijackers wait so long to make their move? The other planes were taken over by the hijackers within 15-20 minutes of take off. United 93 was not taken control of until 40 minutes into the flight. The 30 minute ground delay, combined with the 40 minute delay by the hijackers, were the only reasons why that plane failed to hit its target. If one of those events do not happen, we would have been without a Capitol Building for a while.

I get so jacked up at the end when they try to take back the plane. I'm sitting there yelling at the tv, punching my couch pillows.

Did it show the F-15 Stike Eagles deployed from Andrews AFB that shot the plane down?
