If Selena had not died and JLO got that role, would we even know who JLO was or would she still be a fly girl?
Lopez is basically having the career Selena was expected to have as a singer/actress/etc.

There are plenty of hot actresses out there.
Selena was definitely her big break. Without it, it is quite possible she would be waitressing somewhere.

The question of her talent came up while my wife and I were arguing about her latest movie. I refused to see it b/c all of her movies now are the same...a steaming pile.
When she first hit it big at least she mixed it up with Anaconda, The Cell(I think that's it), etc. Now its all fluffy crap.
She should send a check to Selena's family every year. She owes her career to another, more talented singer who died prematurely.

She was in movies like My Family and Money Train before Selena, and in plenty of magazines. Selena obviously exposed to her a bigger mainstream audience, but I wouldn't say that she'd be some obscure actress otherwise.
She actually had to pad her butt for Selena, though. Selena had a much larger booty IRL.
