Here, it's 30+ years later and his character's values/beliefs never left the 80s, and he's absolutely hilarious. He's actually a sympathetic figure and I was rooting for him.
Yes it is a bit funny that a single tournament loss as a teen has defined Johnny's entire life until now.

This is awesome. It’s the best thing I’ve watched in years haha.

Finished S1 and it was outstanding. I haven't been pleasantly surprised by a show that I had zero expectations from in a loooong time.
Why didn't they back the cash truck up to NPH to pimp this?

Finished it last night. Great show. Should be on network tv.
The way Miguel slowly turned"bad" the parallel between the original and the show is amazing.

The sensei from the movie at the end. I just figured he was dead.

Actually a large failure or success in sports in high school has affected the lives of many.

I think the show adequately showed that cobra Kai was Johnny’s escape from his shitty step dad during his formative years. Kreese was like a true father figure him (albeit a shitty one) and then basically broke him when he lost the tournament and he choked him and abandoned him.
Not like he had a lot going on otherwise after that.
On the flip side Miyagi was the awesome father figure to Daniel that he never had before. Win or lose it didn’t matter, he cared deeply for Daniel and taught him lessons for life outside of his problem with Johnny and the Cobra Kai’s. I like how Daniel isn’t just a total douche in the show. He has his issues, but he was also kind of a hothead in the movie as well.

Yeah, made wonder if Johnny thought Kreese was really dead, or he was just saying that.

I dont think Miguel turned bad at all. He just has a stronger attitude and can defend himself. He was drunk and struck Larusso daughter by accident. He seemed remorseful enough to apologize and look for her after the tournament.

Agreed. I think Miguel is somewhere between where Johnny and Daniel were in the original movie. He’s definitely more aggressive, but that beats being a doormat. I think Robbie is kind of the same. Like everything else in the show they’re different shades of gray.

You look at it from Johnny's point of view and Daniel was the bad guy in the original. Lol

The episode where Johnny tells the story of the first movie from his perspective was my absolute favorite scene from the entire season.

I legit felt bad for him.
