Yes, he actually "quit" twice. The last time was during the Get Back sessions on January 10, 1969. He came back 4 days later.
After Brian Epstein passed away, they were kind of rudderless and John and George were starting to think they wanted out at that time.
In regards to the upcoming movies, I like the idea of watching 4 seperate Beatles movies, but I would have much preferred they did a full length series, a la an 8 to 10 episode series. ...like a season of The Crown.
