When ER was good, it was really really great.

There’s a running joke that if you’re an 80/90s kid you were taught to have an irrational fear of quicksand and the Bermuda Triangle.
You can also count med vac helicopters falling on my head to that. Thanks, ER. Poor Romano.

I saw an interview with Noah Wiley where the host asked something like "What's the secret to presenting an ER like you do in The Pitt where it's so much more grounded and realistic than it ever was in E.R.?" And his answer was "Turn up the lights and turn off the music."
Going back and watching the first season of ER immediately after watching The Pitt really reminds you how savage that answer is.

quote:The episode before the two-hour finale was an interview retrospective. Evidently Romano's a-hole comebacks had the rest of the cast laughing their asses off. They all looked forward to seeing what the character would say next.
Poor Romano.

quote:There was a time when we thought that Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were "so true to life, so gritty". Now they're cartoons compared to The Pitt. And yeah, ER had episodes with marching bands coming through the hospital and a renfair, Halloween episodes... there were later episodes where it really went off the tracks.
