All of these are better actors than Clint by a significant margin.

Clint never really stretched as an actor except for stuff like Play Misty or Tightrope, and even then.

And I was countering the "Top 10" argument by naming guys with decent body of work with acting chops over and above Clint's demonstrated level.

Heck, I'd say Clint is the number 1 living movie star, male certainly - Sophia Loren and Lauren Bacall may invoke just enough international superstardom and harken back to the Golden Age enough to possibly pass him, but as you said - Clint has 67 IMDB acting credits, and even a casual film fan will be familar with 30+ of his acting performances, and 20 + of films he's directed/produced.

Ah ok, you did say in Clint's league though, of which they are beyond, that's all I meant.

There are so many good actors constantly starting in bad movies and the same goes for some great actors

Case in point. I think Shia lebouf is a pretty good actor...yeah I said it, I also think tom cruise is a pretty gay actor.

ETA: a pretty gay actor not a pretty, gay actor

You see, when you say something that is specifically intended to enrage another person, but that person is completely on to you - that person is completely unaffected by this action.

Just food for thought there, Fox.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is, Clint Eastwood is a pretty average actor in a shite ton of great and good movies.

I do think SL has talent but that's a topic for another thread

Clint has always been a great character to me rather than a great actor..after his start in the Spaghetti's he mostly morphed his entire career into crusty griseled veteran of job/life with an old world chip on his shoulder who doesn't like change.

All the Dirty Harry's
Outlaw Josey Wales
Heartbreak Ridge
Honkey Tonk Man
The Rookie
Unforgiven
True Crime
Pale Rider
In the Line of Fire
Absolute Power
Blood Work
Space Cowboys
Million Dollar Baby
Trouble with the Curve
Gran Torino

Hell even Pink Cadillac fits his character/persona mold.

I want to see him do more comedy, along came Polly was stupid but his character was outrageously funny.

But, f*ck man, that was true of most, if not all, of the Hollywood leading greats. Bogey (except for Sierra Madre and Caine Mutiny), Spencer Tracy, the Duke, Gary Cooper, etc.

Brando was the first true "method" actor, but even Brando, to a degree played altered versions of himself in most things, particularly during the later period. After him, you almost have to get to Hoffman/Deniro/Pacino to find guys who stretched out from role to role - and even then, in leads, they're the same.

The fact that Clint plays the same character (Clint Eastwood, in fact) in nearly everything over the past 40 years, whether as a lead role or in support, is that he has, almost exclusively, directed himself over that time. That doesn't make Harry Callahan, or Josey Wales less interesting of a character, just because it is Clint Eastwood being Clint Eastwood.

Good point, but not really a lead actor. GREAT character actor, and I would argue as a support better than either Hoffman or Deniro under most circumstances, and as good as Pacino.

(Yeah, I know about THX and Santini and he was awesome in those.)

Don't forget Tender Mercies (Best Actor Oscar) and Lonesome Dove (perhaps his best performance).

I have only seen him play the grumpy old guy or angry tough guy cop. I've never seen him show versatility. Probably he has but I've never seen it so I don't think he's a great actor.

I think he has some time, needs to develop charisma past 13 year old girls.

I'd admit that actually.
