That was him, he's still alive. Japan is where my favorite horse of all time (Sunday silence) ended up.
The drug abuser thing makes me sad because one of me best friends lost her husband to an od. They had a young kid...
He really did save the horse's life

Seems like you want to feel so bad for the guy that you want to overlook the fact that he just didn't do what was asked of him. It's a tough situation, but it is what is.
He did care about the horse though, and I'm no one felt worse about it then he did.
ETA: Though, it doesn't matter how many races he won or lost, triple crown or not, money or no money....you can't replace a human life, and thats the tradegy.

But did he send the horse to the lead or did the horse break sharp?!
Sometimes a horse breaks wanting to run and if you strangle them you have no horse left...
I dint know. Just playing devil's advocate

i lived in louisville at this time and my family went to a huge derby party where just a ton of families were there and shite. there was naturally a ton of betting and a huge grid and shite and i dunno what else i was pretty young.
so my brother and i enter together for a pretty exorbitant amount (as i remember, probably only like $20) and a chance to win hundreds. my mom and dad enter too naturally. my brother and i draw menefee with pat day and we are fricking pumped. the only jockey we knew was pat day and menefee was essentially the favorite. hell yes. we gave my mom SO much shite for drawing charismatic. she took it in stride, but was actually pissed. anyways, photo finish and that bitch won a ton of money.
the cool part about it was that i always went to Dawn at the Downs with my mom. so i had seen all the horses, jockeys, etc... never been to the derby but i went to Dawn at the Downs every year i lived in louisville. good memories.
