Castle Rock Season 1 (spoilers)

Anyone watch this? This show was pretty decent until the last 5 minutes......why the hell did the guy turn into what appeared to be a monster? The analogy by the main character / narrator about “some people become monsters” was really lame if that’s the conclusion we’re supposed to reach. Is season 2 any better?

Its a completely different story in season 2 and not associated with season 1

It's an anthology series a la American Horror Story, but set in the Stephen King universe. The seasons are otherwise unrelated.

To be clear, I said they exist in a shared universe, but it's been a while since I've seen S2. We binged it the weekend it came out. Other than the locale (Castle Rock, obviously) and Shawshank, was there any major crossover between seasons?
