Watched this movie last night having 0 expectations, and i absolutely loved it. The cast is incredible, and Johnny Depp did a phenomenal job in his role.

If you like mob movies, I highly recommend this movie.

I preferred the Departed (Nicholson's character was partially based on Whitey Bulger)

Also, didn't Whitey live in Grand Isle for a bit? That should've been a bigger part of the film.

I've seen it several times over the past year. All the actors did a pretty good job in their roles and Joel Edgerton as John Connolly sure made for a hell of a corrupt Federal Agent the way he aided Bulger all those years.

There's no wonder the real John Connolly got a 40 year prison term when all the shite that hit the fan finally got settled.

I find Depp to be a very good actor and he pretty much immerses himself in the roles he's playing. Too bad he's come off as such a flake in real life.

Edited to add this: If you've not already seen "Public Enemies" with Depp as John Dillinger, give that a look. Christian Bale is also in it and plays Agent Melvin Purvis in it. Another movie with a great cast and fine acting.

I don’t believe that was known until after the movie came out.

Black Mass came out in 2015, TP wrote an article about him living in Grand Isle in 2011

Likely wasn't important enough to come out in the movie since he was on the run for so long and probably lived in many different locations during that time.

I remember John Walsh talking about his house boat in Grand Isle back in the 90s on America most wanted

Most of the movie takes place before he went into hiding, I was joking.

The Whitey Bulger doc about his case against the Govt from 2014 is pretty good - it's free to watch on a bunch of different platforms

No chit Sherlock, I've seen the movie several times in the past few years. Starts in 75 and goes to him going on the run in the mid 90's.

The only scene after that is the tail end of the movie when the FBI finally catches up with him in California at age 85.
