Was not expecting it to be the funniest I seen from last year. It’s one of the best of 2024. I love how the movie starts out as one thing, and then switched up completely into another.

I didn't see it nor until after the Academy Awards, so maybe I waited too long, but I have no idea how people thought this movie was at all funny or award-worthy.

What parts were funny? The slapstick bit when she got tied up? Not exactly original. I can't think of any other funny parts.

When did it turn from one type of movie to another? Don't tell me you felt the beginning was a romance or romantic comedy. At no point did Ivan act like he was in love with Anora. He clearly saw her as a toy to play with and it was obviously going to end badly. Only question was whether his parents were gangster enough for it to end in bloodshed. All I could think the whole time was how could Anora be so stupid.

And let's not forget the thug with the heart of gold. Never saw that coming, right? At the end when she started crying, was she realizing that she had been stupid, that she was only a whore, or, I guess, just a really stupid whore? Was there some other catharsis I missed?

This is one movie that clearly missed me to the point where I wonder if everyone else has been victim to mass hypnosis or something. I'd rather rewatch Crash than see this Oscar's winner again.
