Not an argument against your assertion because the 70's did have some fine sci-fi but for my taste, nothing beats late 50s science fiction.

It's a good argument though.
70's has a lot of seeds in late 60's that germinated in the 70's.
Star Trek reruns started the 70's. End of the decade brings us Star Wars, Dawn of the Dead, Mad Max.
Sci-fi literature was very dystopian but still reaching for the stars. Known Space as a setting had been set. Sci-fi as a way to discuss politics and environmentalism was fully affirmed.
Thee 70's was more a capstone where the immature 50's mad science and thoughtful 60's reflection came together.

My favorite books are mid 60's to mid 70's sci-fi.
The 80's is my favortite sci-fi decade: Blade Runner, Terminator, Heavy Metal, and Dune. But 70's scifi is great too: Star Wars, Alien, Logan's Run, Westworld, Close Encounters, Soylent Green...

I love 70’s sci-fi, but, going from elementary school to college in that decade, I’m here to tell you that it felt like a sci-fi wasteland.
