Why does no one run the Paul Westhead system anymore

1990 team averaged 122 points a game. LMU has been dogshit for 25 years. I get big programs wouldn't run it but some mid majors should.

Stumer and Fryer, along with Bo and Hank.

Because it can’t sustain over a full year without the Center
While it can win in a Mid Major it can’t last over the long haul especially with the new clock rules the game already has sped up so its being run in a bastardized version

If it can win at a mid major level that should be good enough for a lot of schools. LMU games now have like 300 people in attendance.

Remember what made that system though, it was Gathers. They had to get rebounds and go.
Go look at all the high tempo teams they all have 1 thing in common a great Center.
Coog High Olajuwon
UNLV Butler Ackles

LMU literally has a coach who has been the HC in the NBA and they still suck.

I watched a documentary about Westhead, his practices were freaking brutal.

If I was LMU I’d go get 5 guards and just run a Russian offense or go get a Larry Brown disciple
You can’t press teams to death anymore as the clock shortening has killed that advantage.

They had to be. Nolan at Arkansas was brutal until he figured out he needed to stop pressing 40 minutes

They beat Michigan 149-115 in the tournament and that was without Hank.
Paul had one of those crazy careers. Won an NBA Championship, coached the Panasonic Super Kangaroos, coached in the WNBA.

I don't disagree necessarily. I'm just saying if your program (LMU) has been awful ever since, maybe you should try something different.

And got blitzed by OU without Hank during Christmas
Michigan was so fickle in 90. They had a team that could’ve killed you but Fischer got conned into a running game. Rummeal Robinson knew better but lost his cool.

Loyola to me needs to decide what they want.
They had a CWS team then faded because didn’t support it, then got scared by Gathers. It’s Tulane of LA. If they decide they want to do it they can.

The one place that confuses me is San Diego St
They commit to big time then go in an audit everything to destroy their infrastructure
Another issue with LMU is Fullerton Long Beach Northrodge etc
They’re all after the scraps left by S.C. UCLA Arizona KU etc

Looks like everyone got conned into running with them, except for Alabama. That must have been so much fun to watch.
They gave up 137 to US International, 136 to Oklahoma, 148 to LSU.

OU ran anyway. OU of that era was the monster that scared you. Tubbs was a Rockstar
But of the big time teams they played Michigan was the only one that let LMU take them out of what they did.
The Big 8 one year was so loaded all 8 teams should have went to tourney but they just couldn’t. OU in a weekend beat #1 KU then on Monday of that weekend beat #1 MU to become 1
I think it’s the only time ever that a team has beat the #1 team in back to back games.

They weren't practices.
They were trained like a Cross-Country team.
They ran the Dunes at the L.A. beaches until they puked.

And the underrated guy on that LMU team was Jeff Fryer, dude could bomb away.
That offense needed that...long Curry bombs real quick...it wasn't just all alley-oops to Gathers.

Erik Spoelstra was on the court for Portland when Hank collapsed
