Just wondering. Was TN the first to do this or are they pretty much the only ones who still do it? TIA

A lot of stadiums used to have them- I know Legion Field did. Tennessee started using it in 1964, I imagine they weren't the first

Thank you. Anyone know who the first was?

"I got the idea to use checkerboard when I saw it in a magazine, maybe in an ad.." "The design caught my eye and I thought we needed to dress up the stadium." -former Tennessee football coach and athletic director Doug Dickey
So I think he's taking credit for it.
ETA: But of course Legion Field has used this pattern since the 1940's.
