I know. My point was that Gustaffson is right there behind Hendo for next in line for the title shot. He'll probably have one more fight first, but if Hendo can't go for whatever reason, I'd expect Gustaffson to be the #1 contender....ready or not.

Here are the Composite LHW rankings from most of the reputable sites.
So after Rashad and Hendo, we have:
Rua who Jones dominated.
Davis lost to Rashad in his last fight
Gustafsson who has won 5 straight in UFC (6 of 7 overall UFC)
Machida who Jones dominated.
Rampage who Jones dominated.
Bader who Jones dominated.
Mousasi who is in Strikeforce (good fighter but not deserving)
Little Nog who has been totally unimpressive in the UFC
King Mo is suspended for a year and has been cut by Zuffa.
Im gonna stop there.
So pretty much the choices are rematch of next weekends fight depending on the closeness, Hendo, and Gustafsson. So he should be rightly in the mix of at least being mentioned.
1 Jon Jones
2 Rashad Evans
3 Dan Henderson
4 Mauricio Rua
5 Phil Davis
6 Alexander Gustafsson
7 Lyoto Machida
8 Quinton Jackson
9 Ryan Bader
10 Gegard Mousasi
11 Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
12 Muhammed Lawal
13 Rafael Cavalcante
14 Forrest Griffin
15 Vladimir Matyushenko
16 Ryan Jimmo
17 Stanislav Nedkov
18 Mike Kyle
19 Stephan Bonnar
20 Matt Hamill

interesting predicament. the only two viable contenders @ LHW are hendo and gustafasson in that order. either let hendo get the jones/rashad winner or give the hendo/gustaffson winner vs jones/rashad winner. i can see a really close jones/rashad fight with loser getting an immediate rematch since this bad blood is such a good story.

if gustaffson has to fight Machida next, i dont think he'll make it Jones

Gustaffson/Machida would be a track meet. Neither dude would engage and they'd circle each other all night.
Ramp,
Hendo has already made it clear that he's either fighting for a belt, or he'll just sit and wait. No way he fights Gustaffson for the #1 contender when he already has that spot locked up.
Anyone know when these non ppv MEs get switched to 5 rounds?

I could be wrong, but I think yesterdays will be the last 3 rounder.
I am pretty sure Nate Diaz vs Jim Miller is going to be 5 rounds and the same with the Korean Zombie and Dustin Poirier.

Ok, good deal. Glad they're finally on top of that

this was only 3 rounds because Silva was a replacement

Gustafson has to fight and beat a wrestler before being considered. Can't have him get a shot, pull the upset and automatically get held down with ease by the next wrestler that comes along.
It's the same argument against Hunt for a title shot. He gets a flash knockout of the champ because of a premature title shot, and the next guy to just take him down will sub him instantly.
