You're crazy.

Demian Maia fights are all the same.
Demian Maia is a mauler on the ground. He's not a lay and pray guy. He's constantly advancing position, punching, attempting submissions. This fight could be different, though. Masvidal is no joke. He might put Maia away.

Eddie Alvarez vs.Dustin Poirier, I will dinfintely watch this free fight. How does Eddie go from being world champion and fighting on the main event to being a freaking free fight for his very next fight. He should thank Connor every day.
I thought it was an odd spot to put him at first, but it makes sense if you want to entice the casual fans to buy the PPV.

Well what do you want Maia to do?

That's the thing. If you don't like the ground game, don't watch MMA. Watch kickboxing or boxing. Glory is putting out a great product for striking fans.

I admit I don't care for ground stuff but I respect the discipline a lot. I would probably like it a lot more if I understood it. I know it's like a chess game down there which is really cool. It's just hard for me to see the nuances in positioning to get the upper hand.

I love MMA but the lay and pray shite is boring. Demian Maia on the other hand is a mauler. He doesn't just stay in the dominant position to win the round. He is constantly attacking.

If you want to see some exciting ground game, check out his fights against Carlos Condit, Matt Brown and Neil Magny.

Dang he looks angry.

I think I just saw him get worked by some dude named Rory Macdonald tho.

He definitely has flaws. If he can't get you on the ground, he's going to get fricked up. He has zero stand up.

Yeah that's exactly what happened. This Rory dude was just throwing hands on him.

Looks like madperson is stalking me and downvoting all of my posts.

But to the point, if Demian can't get Masvidal on the ground, he is going to have serious problems. Masvidal is savage on the feet.

Agreed

I like all parts of mma but it's s breath of fresh air to see guys like Maia or machida that still have world class skills in one domain of mma

What's impressive about it is that his opponents know EXACTLY what he's going to do. There is no striking to open up the takedown.

It's scary what he can to do someone on the ground.

Rory has all the physical tools to be ufc champion but now he's in bellator after losing to Robbie lawler and Stephen Thompson

Tyron woodley is the current ufc champ at 170 but his title defenses thus far gave only been against Stephen Thompson whom he beat once by unanimous decision and a majority draw in their first fight.

Yeah and at one time his striking was improving but I'm not sure whom he works with now for it. I think he was working on it with the same coach that taught wanderlei silva, shogun, werdum, now I don't know.

It's almost nonexistent and his shot for a double takedown isn't all that explosive or athletic, it's just a smooth technique that's effortless

Masvidal did just beat Donald Cerrone pretty badly (but I don't know if his head was in the fight), Cerrone has a tendency to choke on fights he should win or make competitive. Or he will take fights when he should be resting or training

Which is what I like seeing from BJJ specialists. It's frustrating watching them get obsessed with striking and get away from what they do best. They're a 10 in the submission category and a 5 in the striking category and now all they want to do is strike.

Maia has essentially given up on striking and focused on his wrestling to get the fight to the mat. I love seeing that. Do what you do best and force it on your opponents.

Kind of off topic, but the ref really screwed up the end of rd1 in the Masvidal vs Cerrone fight. That fight was over before the bell. I love the look Masvidal gave Cerrone before the start of rd2. It was the perfect "I told you, motherfricker" face.
