It would be nice, but this is a very rare move. Let's not forget that after his injury, Brees signed a 5 year deal in 2006 that paid him good, not great QB money. He was paid handsomely once that deal was done, but didn't hold out or complain during the course of the original deal despite being a top 3 QB over that span.

This isn't the first time Brady has done this. He knows taking less money now can help him win before he has to retire.
Drew will hopefully do something along these lines during this off season. The sooner the better.
He has to see how hamstrung the team will be and he has to know that having 90 million + attached to the offense is not conducive to a winning team.
