quote:

One of these days, the Western Conference will belong to the young star, and rest assured the suggestions that Durant threatens to pass him sooner than later haven’t gone unnoticed by Bryant. For the first time in his career, some are doubting Bryant can still be considered a transcendent star in the sport.

All the way to 32 points in a 95-94 Game 6 victory to clinch the series, Bryant privately confessed that he cherished the confrontation with Durant. Perhaps he cherished it in ways that he didn’t completely comprehend until the series was over, until he had shown everyone that he’s not ceding a damn thing

quote:

“I’ve been around for so long, you’d figure that they would understand my competiveness comes when I’m trying to figure out a way,” Bryant said. “If I can’t walk, I’m going to figure out a way to be effective to help us win. That’s part of the challenge. And I guess if there’s no challenge, there’s nothing left for me. I might as well go home.”

quote:

“More than last year or the year before, this means something because now they’re trying to force me out,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports late Friday on his walk to the bus.

He let the words sit there for a moment.

They’re trying to force me out.

“And I’m not going anywhere.”

Believe me, Kobe really takes things the media says to heart and uses it as motivation. I think the criticism he's received in this series bothered him more than anything else in his career aside from the "you can't win without Shaq" talk.

I think he's just referring to the naysayers and general consensus that he's done.

Gasol cleaned up his miss for the win, otherwise they're still playing.

He's been feuding with Jackson and management. Prepare for change this offseason. I hear the Bulls and Clippers are real possibilities.

How do you feel about your boys against Cleveland in the series?

Didn't Kobe just sign an extension last month ?

i'm expecting a very pyhsical/heated series ever. these two teams hate each other.

i think they have a shot, but KG's play will be a huge factor.

But the media and the naysayers were, for the most part, right in the OKC series.

Kobe had 2 good games and 4 mediocre to piss-poor games in the series. 40% shooting for the series.

And if either Ibaka or Collison had bothered to put their body on Gasol late last night, the narrative today would have been "Kobe chokes."

Not really. A lot of talk has been that Kobe is in a steep decline, when it's really due to injuries more so than a lack of skill. Also, for as much as everyone loves Durant, he played worse than Kobe while being fully healthy, and perhaps his worse game was last night's crucial elimination game (which also happened to be, arguably, Kobe's best).

Who has said this? Or is this Kobe engaging in an MJ-type effort to invent a slight where none exists?

Everything I've read acknowledges the injuries as the reason Kobe is not playing as well as he can.

Well intelligent fans aren't saying it, but do you read the shite people say about guys like Kobe and LeBron just on this board? It's like that on all the boards. It's like that in all the arenas I'd imagine. I'm sure Kobe has heard stuff from all different angles about how he's declining.

But yeah, I'm sure there's also some self-motivation going on there too. Most great athletes have a "me against the world" mentality that they use to constantly fuel themselves. So I'd say it's a little of both.

Kobe being gay as usual. Loses a step and starts acting like a baby. If Gasol doesn't bail him out last night on that tip in, his 32 is meaningless.

You're pretty dumb, so I'll try to keep it short and sweet. Gasol was 4/11 for 9 points. I dont understand how he "bailed" Kobe out. Kobe missed a jumper, Gasol made a layup where he wasn't boxed out. If Gasol goes 5/11, the Lakers are shooting FTs instead of a do or die possession. You can attempt to flame all you want, but everyone knows that Kobe came up huge last night
