Federer and Gavin Rossdale seems like an odd friendship.

Fed looks good.

I think it's Nadals to win, though

That slice lob that Federer used the wind to his advantage on was a thing of beauty. Some excellent shot making tonight

For some reason I think the winner of Fed-Djoker will win it all.

When it gets to the grits, in the crucial big points, I just don't think Rafa will have the confidence he needs to win on that surface. Not just yet.

Of course, there is a small possibility I might be wrong.

I hope Fed takes it, but Nadal hasn't even been broken all tournament.

Part of that is who he's played. He hasn't really faced anyone of note yet.

He definitely has had an easy draw, but he's never served like this before. 135+

The easy draw may end up working against Nadal. Whoever wins between Fed and Djokovic I think will be very confident going into the final based on how they have had to play to get there.

Fed's step up against Soderling, just when it looked like the match was turning against him at the end of the 3rd, was something special.

And if Djokovic can beat Fed, he will be very confident going up against Nadal. He's beat them both before to win his only major.

I almost feel like his new serve will work against him if he plays Fed, who has always had problems with Nadal's spin serves. I could see Fed using the pace off of his new faster serve, while he's struggled creating pace on his returns against Rafa in the past.

LOL at Soderling! Can't get a break in the first set after 1000 chances. Dumps an easy winner at 40-0 on serve in the second and ends up getting broken in that game. Then breaks in the third and could serve for the set, but is promplty broken.

Thought he had matured and would be able to play the big points, but Fed schooled him when it mattered.

Nadal hadn't been broken in 62 service games, and Verdasco just broke him at love in his second of this match. Fernando dominated from the baseline in that game. Looks like this might be a good match

Damn, that was disappointing. Verdasco bullied Nadal that entire set then gave it away through double faults and stupid errors. I'm revising my finals prediction though. Federer is clearly playing the best tennis. If this wind continues it would clearly favor him based on how well he served in it last night compared to everyone else.

Nadal just wears down his opponents.

Unless one is in the zone and willing to keep his nerve then Nadal, like Fed, is just too good.

I'd like to see FV push this to 4 sets, if not 5.

Yea I know people call the US Open the "toughest slam" because you hafta battle the heat and the wind, but am I the only one who's getting sick of mediocre tennis?

All the matches each year seem to be just littered with balls dumped into the net or miss-hits sprayed way wide. I don't know if there's a simple situation they can make to the top of the stadium to decrease the wind but it's ridiculous.

Maybe my memory is leaving me but I feel like the US Open tennis is always pretty rough.

This is going to be a straight setter. Verdasco had to take that first set.

FV certainly looks to be giving in.

Typical of today's tennis players not named Nadal and Federer.

It's sad guys ranked #3 and less have such weak mentalities.

It really is sad. I'm hoping that Del Potro continues on the tremendous improvement that he was showing prior to his injury once he finally comes back. Tennis needs some new blood IMO.

Yea it'd be nice but tennis has always kinda been like this. It's the most difficult sport mentally and you see this with how many guys just can't get over the hump.

The key to this tournament will be the first set against Rafa. When he wins the first set, the guy settles in and is very tough. He does sometimes come out hesitant in the first set so that's where opponents need to take advantage.

The Fed has been known as a "frontrunner" but Nadal has that same killer instinct consistently.

The "Joke" has it...sometimes.

The "Scot" has it...sometimes.

There is the difference. I really miss the 80/90's tennis...
