The irony is that the Michigan result will live in infamy far longer than an official loss

Hypothetically let's say the game had officially ended on the incomplete hail mary, final score WMU 12 Mich 7.

Everyone would have laughed at and trolled Michigan this week and that would have been about it. Thing is, that is actually fairly routine.

Brand name teams suffering embarrassing losses to non-brand name teams pretty much happens every single year. Pretty much every name brand program int he country has a collection of these losses at this point.

Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois just a few years ago, but ND is in the top 5 and primed for playoff runs. LSU is the toast of college football right now, their fan base probably doesn't particularly care they lost to UAB and Troy years ago.

However as things played out ensured this is a far more long term embarrassing situation for Michigan. They turned a routine "lost to a small program" upset into something far more eternal. The infamy of cheating a little team and storming the field after doing so, they built an everlasting monument to their shame.

Seems like a classic pyrrhic "victory" situation, they'll have to hear about this shite for the rest of time.
