SIAP, but how many open spots do the Braves have on their 40-man roster and how many non-tender candidates are there? deadline for teams to finalize their 40-man rosters for the purpose of the Dec. 8th Rule 5 Draft is this Saturday.
for anyone who doesn't know how the Rule 5 Draft works:

Any team that drafts one of your farmhands must pay you $50K and keep that player on their 25-man roster for the entire 2012 baseball season or they have to offer the drafted player back to you for $25K. So, when trying to decide which players to protect from the draft you're not trying to protect any player that you think may be able to help the your team at the major league level sometime during their career. Rather, you only want to protect those players that you think another team would want right now AND who they would be able to keep on their 25-man roster all next season.

We have 7 open spots right now and Moylan is almost certainly going to be non-tendered

Off the top of my head, I can't really think of anyone in the system that is rule 5 eligible that the Braves think highly enough to protect
maybe Mauro Gomez since he had a solid year this past year, or Chris Carter.
We added Todd Redmond earlier in the month just for the fact to protect him, even though he will probably never sniff the majors for this team.

Todd Redmond
seems to have some potential

He definitely has the stuff to be a solid back end of the rotation guy. He just needs that chance.
I'd expect him to be involved in a trade at some point this year.

#Braves in listening mode, but not very far along in trade talks involving Martin Prado, Jair Jurrjens or anyone else on roster.

#reds 1 of many to acquire on top starter jair jurrjens. Clear sense is it would take a ton.

Nothing wrong with that
a move doesn't have to be made, but if someone wants to come bringing the heat, we'll jump on it

After looking through the Red's system, I have a hard time thinking they will be a good match.

That is the name that comes to mind.

Jurrjens for Cozart would be nice

Maybe.
Bat would be nice. Not sure how he could hold up in the outfield, though.

Swamps did you read Ken R's article on the new draft rules?
Posted on 11/15/11 at 6:57 pm to lsu31always
I did not. Let me check it out.

Interesting. Won't really affect the Braves since we rarely ever go over slot.
We spent the 6th least amount of money this year on the draft. Grand total of $3.7M
